Coming home to ourselves for me means recognising our individual as well as our collective uniqueness. For this I know I need stillness practices to allow me to sink into that inner space that recognises my own inner truth. Even if this quiet space is not always easy, warm, and nurturing, once we become familiar with the feeling tone of an experience, we can make peace with it. Then we arrive home and it becomes easier and more welcoming!

Live streaming

For me the live streaming practice is a great way to do yoga at the moment. I like that the live streaming format means that I have to commit to practicing at a certain time. Despite it being virtual I do get a sense of community from it, too. I do miss not being corrected in case I'm doing something completely wrong, but so far I've felt quite secure in the exercises and I have not felt any pain afterwards, so I take this as a good sign :-)  Having said this, I do feel that I'm getting used to practicing and that I'm in better shape and more flexible 3 months ago.

Live streaming

I joined Fiona’s live streaming yoga without previously having trained with her, and it’s been a wonderful and highly recommendable experience! Even without much previous yoga knowledge, I found the classes were easy to follow and quickly started to feel the benefits from training regularly. Fiona is always available to answer questions, but she explains every little detail so well that this is hardly necessary. Online registration is fast and simple too, and I absolutely enjoy being able to practice flexibly and from my own home whenever it suits my schedule. I can entirely recommend Fiona’s live yoga to everyone who doesn’t have a chance to attend her lessons in person! I would still prefer to be in the same room with eye contact etc., but since the general circumstances with the lockdown as well as my personal situation don't really allow, I think I am so lucky there is something that works around the situation. But most importantly, I really enjoy the lessons: all that you teach with the strip, the gentleness of the exercises, how they make my body feel, your inspiring words with it, the way you relate to gravity, everything.

21-Day Inspiration

Im Corona Lockdown begann dieses Jahr die 21 -day challenge von Fiona. Der Aufbau und die Abfolge dieser herausfordernden Asanas ist meiner Meinung nach perfekt. Vom ersten Tag an gibt es einen bestimmten Ablauf, der grundsätzlich gleich ist, jedoch immer wieder um verschiedene Varianten ergänzt wird. Jeder kann, angeleitet von Fiona, die Asanas nach den individuellen Möglichkeiten ausführen. Ob das am Ende der „headstand“ oder „dolphin pose“ ist… Das Endergebnis, d.h. der 21. Tag zeigt eine sehr fordernde sehr dynamische Abfolge von Surya Namaskar und Asanas, die den ganzen Körper, aber speziell die Bauchmuskulatur, bzw. die Körpermitte stärkt. Aus diesem Grund hat mir diese challenge besonders gut gefallen: Sie ist kurz, schnell und „knackig“. Durch die Pranayama Übung zu Beginn, Nadi Sodhana, werde ich eingestimmt, ruhig, aber dennoch energetisiert. Das liegt meiner Ansicht nach an der Abfolge, am „fast pumping breath“, den Fiona in die Wechselatmung eingebaut hat, und die ich in der Kombination vorher noch nicht kannte. Ich bin davon sehr begeistert und führe sie auch separat, nur als energetische Atemübung durch. Seit über zwei Monaten ist die challenge meine Lieblingspraxis, die ich meistens dann mache, wenn ich nicht online life von Fiona angeleitet werde. Vielen Dank dafür, Fiona!

Inspired Life Training

I noticed a change in my behaviour and approach at work, and my line manager as well who pointed out a very positive change some months ago. In the last months, I found myself calmer, attentive and more creative. And, I was asked to be involved in new projects where much thinking is requested that I, in the past, never liked to do as I always thought I was not good at that. Apparently, I am not so bad and on top of that I am gaining a better understanding of the whole picture and can link areas of work with each other. I further consolidated also a new tool in the process of dissatisfaction like dialogue between parties that have disagreements, and this is today well recognised within the company and outside.

Inspired Life Training

Inspired Life Training War eine großartige Möglichkeit während des lockdowns in Bewegung zu bleiben, Yoga zu machen und hat viel zum “good mood" beigetragen. Die InSpired 21 Day Challenge war ein wichtiges und tolles Element um so intensiv in die tägliche Yogapraxis zu finden. Es fiel mir erstaunlich leicht, auch darüber hinaus, also alleine, dran zu bleiben. Vielleicht ist das (auch ohne Lockdown) gut, dass die 21day shared praxis relativ am Anfang des Trainings liegt. Alle praktischen, konkreten Yogaübungen fielen mir leichter. Sehr hilfreich fand ich zu schauen, welche Übungen mag ich, was fällt mir schwer? Vielen Dank, dass Du Dein Wissen und Deine Erfahrung mit uns teilst. Deine online-Plattform ist sehr, sehr hilfreich. Es ist gut, dass ich so Deine online-Sequenzen reflektieren kann. Ich will sie gerne weiter nutzen.

Inspired Life Training

During the 6 months I learned  how to filter from the  various options offered what is suitable for me:  if something is helpful for others it doesn‘t have to be helpful for me, so that was an  interesting experience to really see/ feel what I need. In the beginning I was a bit „ overwhelmed“ by the material  ( in a positive way, everything so interesting ) and I learned how to take things out of it suitable for me and my daily life.   For me it is  the combination  of  lying on the black strip, yin poses,  a bit of meditation and breath. Of course I heard before of the meaning of pranayama but I did not practice it at home.  What is interesting also is that as I am writing this I am thinking: „ this might change again“- so if I feel the need to change my routine I can take a look at your/our material  and adapt it ( is not „in Stein gemeißelt“ as you say in german).

Seva project

In Yoga, SEVA (Say-va) is a Sanskrit word for service - how can we serve others and give back to society. Through my yoga practice and teaching, I aim to give back to my childhood community in a small and meaningful way. Since I grew up in South Africa, this is where my heart lies in an attempt to empower young children in the Lidgetton community where it is often challenging to have hope and see the light. Our small Angel Ruth’s Soup Kitchen is a space where the children can go for a warm meal, as well as to a space where they know they are safe and cared for, can play freely and learn.

I offer a percentage of my teaching earnings back into this community, knowing that is is well used and goes directly to the source. To support the growing needs in the Lidgetton community, we set-up Lucky Beans e.V. in Germany in 2015. Through our charity status we are able to offer the possibility of EU citizens receiving a tax reclamation from any donation you may wish to make.
