Bowen
Technique
"The body
heals itself, the physician is only nature's assistant"
Hippocrates
A
Bowen treatment, whether to
address a specific problem or maintain a healthy body, aims
to restore the structural integrity of the body and calm
the mind. The treatment promotes healing, pain relief and
recovery of energy.
Developed in the
1950’s by Thomas Bowen of Australia, this technique was
named after him following his death in 1982, and is now
being practiced worldwide.
How is
Bowen
applied?
This non-invasive treatment consists of a series of gentle
rolling moves at precise points, performed by the
practitioner, using thumbs and fingers.
The moves seem to create a deep sense of relaxation, and
empower the body’s own natural resources to heal itself,
improving the functioning of the body systems, and
encouraging a calmer state of mind.
There is no manipulation or adjustment.
An important feature of the technique is the frequent
breaks between moves, which allow this new information to
be processed effectively by the body.
Who can receive
Bowen?
Everyone. The treatment is considered safe and effective
for people of all ages, from newborns through to the
elderly.
Regular treatments for maintaining well being &/or
stress management.
After recent injuries, or pre- & post-operative care -
treatment can speed up recovery.

can vary between 30 - 60 minutes including the 2 - 5 minute
breaks.
“Less is more, like a physical homeopathy.”
